Decades of Mastery, One Unified Force: 1st Electromagnetic Warfare Squadron Activates Published Aug. 14, 2026 By USSF Combat Forces Command Public Affairs PETERSON SPACE FORCE BASE, Colo. -- The 1st Electromagnetic Warfare Squadron was officially activated during an Aug. 3, 2026, ceremony here. U.S. Space Force Col. Angelo Fernandez, commander of Mission Delta 3, presided over the event. The activation represents a key step forward under the Space Force Personnel Management Act, which transitions legacy Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard space units into a single, unified Space Force. The bulk of the 1 EWS team is made up of former Guardsmen who volunteered to transfer into the Space Force as full-time Guardians. This heavy integration of former Guardsmen brings years of mature, hands-on operational continuity to 1 EWS and MD3. This deep bench of experience ensures rapid, frictionless integration into current Joint Force operations and exercises. "Our competitive edge is the pairing decades of seasoned EW mastery with the innovation of our newest Guardians,” said Lt Col Danielle Ryan, 1 EWS commander. “We are fusing deep expertise with fresh tactics, advancing our spectrum dominance." 1 EWS is the first Mission Delta 3 unit to have two weapon systems under one roof – Meadowlands and Bounty Hunter. Distributed across five operating locations, 1 EWS represents a critical evolution in Space Force tactical design, merging full-spectrum electromagnetic warfare capabilities with deep, seasoned operator experience to deliver immediate combat readiness.
