Brigadier General Ryan G. Deming

Inspired by aviation at a young age, Ryan Deming enrolled in the Canadian Armed Forces in 1993. After a series of progressive leadership roles, he was promoted to the rank of Brigadier-General (BGen) in 2023.

He started his career at the Royal Military College of Canada (RMC) in Kingston, Ontario, where he earned a Bachelor of Engineering in 1997. After earning his navigator (ACSO) wings, BGen Deming joined 429 (T) Squadron in Trenton flying the mighty CC130 Hercules. Following this operational tour, Ryan became an instructor in 2002 at 426 (T) Squadron’s Tactical Training Flight. In 2005, he transitioned to 1 Canadian Air Division Det Transport and Rescue Standards and Evaluation Team (TRSET). In 2008, BGen Deming returned to 8 Wing Trenton as the Standards Flight Commander for 436 (T) Sqn and finished this tour as Deputy Commanding Officer.

BGen Deming has commanded at numerous levels including Commander of the Tactical Airlift Unit in Afghanistan (2009), Squadron Commander of 426 (T) Sqn (2014 – 2016), Op NANOOK Air Task Force Commander (2015) and more recently Wing and Base Commander of 8 Wing / Canadian Forces Base Trenton (2019 – 2022) during both the global pandemic and war in Ukraine.

BGen Deming has numerous deployments around the globe over the span of his career including 
multiple deployments to Afghanistan and the Middle East.

BGen Deming’s staff tours include positions at Canadian Expeditionary Force Command (CEFCOM), as well as Staff Officer for the Chief of Defence Staff, Deputy Director Strategic Coordination for the Chief of Force Development, Executive Assistant to the Commander RCAF, Director Defence Programme Coordination, and Director General Air and Space Readiness within the Air Staff. He currently holds the position of Deputy Commander – Operations, Plans, Training, and Force Development at HQ United States Space Force Combat Forces Command in Colorado Springs.

BGen Deming is a graduate of the Joint Command and Staff Program at the Canadian Forces College in Toronto, Ontario, and holds a Master of Business Administration from TUI University. BGen Deming is also a graduate of United States Air Force (USAF) Air War College at Maxwell AFB in Montgomery, AL, where he earned his Master of Strategic Studies. He was invested as an officer of the Order of Military Merit in 2017.

Born and raised in Simcoe, ON, Canada, BGen Deming enjoys family time and unwinding on the golf course
